N. Korea Demands Students Return For Indoctrination

(TotalConservative.com) – South Korea authorities are reporting that the government of North Korea has demanded the repatriation of students studying abroad for “political indoctrination.” South Korea’s Radio Free Asia said that the return of the students should occur before the indoctrination sessions are held in July which are designed to “reinforce allegiance” to leader Kim Jong-un.

The indoctrination sessions are to occur at the Grand People’s Study House in the capital of Pyongyang. The Study House was dedicated in 1982 to the first communist leader of the country, Kim Il-sung. It’s described as a “sanctuary of learning” for the North Korean populace and contains a few books from outside the country, but only those with a special permit can access them.

The space is six hundred rooms spread over ten floors with over a million square feet of space, inviting massive indoctrination events. The U.N. estimated that the country has only 1,100 students studying abroad currently, however.

South Korean authorities reported that the regular indoctrination sessions were suspended due to the 2020 pandemic, and are only recently resuming. The last time there was a similar session was in 2019. North Korea totally shut all its borders during the pandemic and locked down its civilian populace. Media for South Korea relayed concerns of the study abroad students that they may be forced to stay in the country if they’re caught dating or otherwise chastised by their communist overlords.

Other reports recently highlighted leader Kim Jong-un’s desire to “tighten control” over young adults in the 20s and 30s to maintain ideological control of the country. He’s specifically concerned about the younger generations of the country’s elite populace deviating from the party line.

Defections tripled when North Korea reopened its borders in 2023 with numerous defectors reporting terrible conditions for the populace in North Korea as well as a tyrannical government which tolerates no dissent or criticism. South Korean officials said it would be interesting to see how many of the students instructed to return home from abroad refuse to heed the call.
