Local groups, parents, and lawyers are angered by the revelation that Planned Parenthood employees are teaching 9th graders a very liberal form of sex education. Rather than have the classes taught by the faculty, Acalanes High School in Lafayette, California has outsourced sex-ed to a Walnut Creek branch of Planned Parenthood. Parents are particularly concerned about the materials the abortionists are handing out to their children.

Among the materials is a checklist that asks students, “Are you ready for sex?” Included in the checklist are items like the following, followed by a “yes or no”:

I have safer sex materials (condoms, dental dams, etc.)
I have water-based lubricant
I know when my body is sexually aroused
I can tell my partner what feels good

That’s cherry-picking – most of the checklist is a little more responsible – but it illustrates the graphic nature of the program, and it explains why many parents are upset. Brad Dacus of the Pacific Justice Institute is supporting the parents as they investigate just what’s going on in their children’s classroom. He states the obvious when he says, “Planned Parenthood is not exactly the best when it comes to putting young people first. They get more grants from the promiscuity of children.”

Consent for Students, But None for Parents

The checklist was not the only piece of liberal sex propaganda handed to the students. The materials also included a worksheet outlining the basics of consent, warning of vague questions like “Do you want to go back to my place?” and “Is it OK if I take my pants off?” The purpose of these materials is in dispute, with some arguing that it serves as a virtual how-to on getting girls to have sex without coming right out and asking.

But the bigger questions about the program are not in the details, but rather in the fact that the materials were given out without parental consent. Regardless of what you think about progressive sex education, you must surely admit that parents deserve to know what their children are being taught. Even if you don’t, that’s the law.

According to the Pacific Justice Institute’s letter to Acalanes Union High School District, they might be in violation of said law. In part, the letter reads: “We have not seen any documentation to indicate that distribution of the surveys complied with either Federal law or the California Education Code as to parental notification.”

LGBT Foolishness

The education these 9th graders received was also branded with some signature “social justice” liberalism in the form of a “Genderbread Person.” This handout invites students to find themselves on the gender identity continuum, a throughline that goes from woman to man with a long, welcoming space in the middle for “genderqueer.”

This kind of education may be par for the course in a school district mere miles from San Francisco, but it demonstrates how wary conservative parents should be when it comes to what their kids are learning in school.
