(TotalConservative.com) – A rather large majority of Republicans recently polled by Rasmussen think Sen. Mitch McConnell (R-KY) should step down from his role as Senate Minority Leader after a series of health concerns.
The poll asks folks if they agree or disagree with the recommendation of some Republicans that McConnell resign due to health issues. McConnell had a nasty fall back in March when he tripped during a dinner party in Washington D.C. and ended up in the hospital with a concussion. McConnell also suffered a fractured rib during the spill.
At the time, his office minimized the seriousness of his condition and initially claimed the Senator would be back to work in a few days. It was five weeks before he was able to return to work.
The 81-year-old Senator holds the record for being in the U.S. Senate longer than anyone living or dead. He’s refused calls to resign and said he’s intent on finishing out his term in office.
Shortly after his return to work in mid-April, the Senator had trouble fielding questions after a ground-breaking event for a research laboratory. Then in late July he completely froze for 20 seconds during a press briefing in Washington D.C. at the U.S. Senate. On August 30th, McConnell froze a second time when asked if he was going to seek reelection.
McConnell returned after his first freeze-up to report that he was “fine.” When he appeared locked up again an aide approached and asked him loudly if he had heard the question. McConnell did not respond to her. Once back online, McConnell was able to field additional questions with the help of his staff often repeating them to him. He refused to answer a question pertaining to Donald Trump.
No one asked him about his health. A spokesman for the Senator said that he reported feeling a little lightheaded during his presser. They said he plans to check in with his doctors before any major appearances in the future.
