(TotalConservative.com) – GOP presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy announced on Tuesday that he filed a lawsuit against the Department of Justice (DOJ) as well as a new records request under the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) for more information about the third indictment of former President Donald Trump.
Ramaswamy stated that he is “bringing this lawsuit” to “deliver accountability and transparency” to the question of what “Biden and his cronies” told Attorney General Merrick Garland and what the Attorney General “and the deep-staters” who appointed him told special counsel Jack Smith.
A Washington grand jury indicted Trump on Tuesday on four charges related to the events in Washington, D.C., on January 6, 2021. One of the charges is a conspiracy to defraud the United States, which is based on allegations that Trump attempted to remain in power after being defeated by President Joe Biden in 2020.
According to the indictment, Trump “was determined to remain in power,” spreading lies “for more than two months” that “outcome-determinative fraud” took place and that he was the actual winner.
Despite the fact that he’s running against the former president for the Republican nomination, Ramaswamy has remained a vocal defender of Trump. He even promised to pardon Trump if he makes it into the White House, and asked other candidates to pledge the same. Ramaswamy claims the indictment “selectively omits” facts and laws relevant to the case, arguing “the corrupt federal police” are on a mission to “eliminate Trump.”
Ramaswamy’s filing states a FOIA request was submitted in June seeking to obtain any “documents and records” the DOJ possesses “related to the decision” to federally indict Trump in relation to his handling of classified materials after leaving office, a separate investigation. Ramaswamy’s campaign team will now file another FOIA request related to the third indictment.
Ramaswamy adamantly stated that the former president wasn’t “the real cause” of what occurred in D.C. on Jan. 6, putting the blame instead on the “censorship of citizens” prior to the riot, which he called “systematic and pervasive.”
