Report Shines Light On Youth Transgender Surgeries

( – A new study of transgender surgeries, which looked at adult and minor populations, found that most of those who underwent such procedures in the year 2019 were minors.

On Thursday, June 27, public health researchers from Harvard University published a study in JAMA Network Open analyzing the insurance records of millions of Americans. The researchers combed through records for 22.8 million children and 47.4 million adults.

Amongst adults in 2019, the study found that about 5.3 out of 100,000 went through with transgender surgeries. Even more alarming was the demographic of 15 to 17-year-olds, of which 2.1 out of 100,000 underwent such surgeries.

Another alarming find was that 0.1 out of every 100,000 adolescents, between 13 and 14, underwent some form of transgender surgical procedure. Although a smaller number, the data indicates that such surgeries have still been performed on children. Meanwhile, many who support so-called “gender-affirming care” often claim children that young were not undergoing surgeries.

Additionally, the study found that among children 12 years old or younger, surgeries were “not happening at all.”

Dannie Dai, a Harvard research data analyst and the study’s co-author, said the study ultimately found that “gender-affirming surgeries” performed on adolescents were “very low.”

The researchers found that 80% of adults who received breast reduction surgeries were men with gynecomastia, a condition resulting in swollen breasts in males from hormonal imbalance. Among minors who received the same surgeries, 97% had the same condition. This led researchers to conclude that “concerns about high rates” of transgender surgery, specifically for children, “may be unwarranted.”

This may sound like good news, but it only further confirms that this is happening to minors. Opponents of gender ideology believe these procedures should not be happening to minors at all, and some even believe the same for adults and consider the entire approach to be medical malpractice. Often, supporters either do not realize people so young are going under the knife or they pretend it’s not happening to protect the ideology.
