(TotalConservative.com) – Criticizing pop star Taylor Swift is a bad idea, according to the former Chair of the Republican National Committee (RNC), as is promoting conspiracy theories that her relationship with NFL football player Travis Kelce is part of a giant plot to help President Joe Biden’s campaign.
Reince Priebus, the former RNC Chair, made an appearance on ABC News for a panel discussion on “This Week” and was asked about the recent fixation on Swift by conservative media and political commentators, many of whom believe the superstar pop singer will most likely help promote Biden in this year’s presidential election. Priebus replied that he thinks the response from conservatives is “a powder keg of stupidity” that will only end up turning away prospective Republican voters.
Priebus said that Swift and the NFT represent “two of the most popular things” in the country right now and cautioned his party against attacking them. He said if the GOP wants to “grow the tent,” then such attacks aren’t “the way to go” and that Americans should find “a few things” to agree on.
The former RNC Chair’s remarks come just after a report from the New York Times that the Biden re-election campaign has plans to bring Swift on board and to obtain her endorsement once again. Swift endorsed Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris in 2020.
The supposed plan by the Biden campaign is to use Swift’s cultural influence to encourage younger voters, many of whom aren’t very politically active, to go out to the polls. In September 2023, Swift managed to convince thousands of young people to register to vote in just a few hours after posting on Instagram.
According to a Rolling Stone report, former President Donald Trump’s campaign is also paying close attention to the pop star and her next move. So far, Swift has not endorsed any candidate.
Priebus said that he doubts Swift’s endorsement would be of much consequence ahead of the election. He believes that even if she does “take a political position,” it won’t change anyone’s vote come November.
