RNC Changes Platform For First Time In Eight Years

(TotalConservative.com) – Republicans have updated and reduced their official platform for the first time since 2016. The update was passed by a voice-vote on Monday and formalized with a written vote later that day. The RNC Committee largely embraced the platform 84 to 18 in the week prior to the event.

Sen. Marsha Blackburn (R-TN) suggested that the revisions help the American people understand their values and beliefs.

Former President Donald Trump contributed to the revisions according to a spokesman for his campaign who spoke with the alternative press. The revised form is much shorter and briefer on key issues than the previous iteration. It also dropped some pro-life language which had Christian conservatives annoyed.

Pro-life group Advancing American Freedom wrote to the committee to suggest they “vote down” revisions to the platform if it doesn’t maintain the commitment to combating the killing of the unborn, euphemistically termed “abortion.” Abortion wasn’t mentioned in the platform highlighting Trump’s previous announcement that he won’t seek any national bans on the practice, leaving the decision up to the states.

All that occurred prior to the attempt on Trump’s life on July 13, however. The new platform was rapidly adopted with little opposition, though there was some. Most Republicans heralded the new platform; Louisiana state Rep. Michael Bayham called it “more realistic.” He added that if no one reads the document due to length or otherwise it’s irrelevant anyway.

The revised platform includes many of Trump’s recent policies including bringing back trade tariffs on imports and revoking Most Favored Nation status with China.

The platform also calls for the GOP to return to its roots as the party of workers, infrastructure, manufacturing, and industry. It did not mention unions which are typically opposed by Republicans. It highlighted the southern border crisis calling it a “migrant invasion,” and calling for mass deportations. It also claims to seek tax cuts, energy independence, and more investment in space programs. It also denounced “left wing gender insanity.”
