If you’ve been paying attention to the Internet over the last couple of years, you’ve probably noticed some of your favorite nonpolitical websites change a bit. You’ve probably started to see terms like “slut shaming” and “othering” and “white privilege” pop up in places you wouldn’t expect. This is the SJW-ization of the culture, and it’s now beginning to play a role in serious politics. SJW, for the uninitiated, stands for Social Justice Warriors, and it is used to describe (primarily) white liberal college chicks who are the pure embodiment of insane feminism. A quick glance at Tumblr.com (and I don’t advise it) will tell you all you need to know about the startling lack of sense that has pervaded the movement.

That would be all well and good if it wasn’t now starting to infect the real world. How else to describe the latest government overreach coming out of California, though? The legislature has passed a new bill that threatens to change the standard of sexual consent at California colleges and universities. SB967 eschews the old “no means no” standard with a hilarious-if-it-wasn’t-true standard of positive consent. A sexual partner – a woman, in 99.9% of cases – would have to use clear, unambiguous actions or words in order for it to qualify as consensual sex.

There’s of course nothing wrong with teaching incoming students that they should make sure the girl they are planning to have sex with actually wants to have sex. But the problem comes when we pass laws like this intended to take away a woman’s agency. For some reason, it’s not enough that liberals harp endlessly about the plight of the minority – blacks, women, otherkin (don’t Google it) – but they also have to treat them like children. Women are no longer expected to take responsibility for their actions. Get drunk, have sex? Watch out, men – that’s not considered “consensual” anymore. It’s only a matter of time before female drunk drivers are excused from their actions in that arena as well.

The trend now on the left is to educate men…to teach them not to rape. Millions of wasted dollars have been spent on these campaigns, the proponents of which insist that “only men” can stop rape. What they never seem to acknowledge is that the majority of men are not rapists. That they would never rape. That all of this “education” is aimed at people who already know better. The other men…you know, the rapists…don’t care what your poster says.

Rape is already a crime in California, as far as I’m aware. Let’s leave it at that. It doesn’t magically transform into a non-crime once it occurs on a college campus anymore than assault becomes a non-crime when it’s white on black. And much like hate crime laws, this is just another example of liberal politicians trying to solve a problem that doesn’t exist.
