(TotalConservative.com) – Controversial Republicans known as the House Freedom Caucus were rewarded for their opposition to Kevin McCarthy’s (R-CA) speaker bid with appointments to the House Oversight and Judiciary committees.
The Judiciary Committee will be chaired by Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH) who will preside over other Freedom Caucus members Chip Roy (R-TX), Andy Biggs (R-AZ), and Matt Gaetz (R-FL). A congressional source told Fox News that their initial meeting will be about the southern border and is likely to happen toward the end of January or early February.
Speaker McCarthy restored Majorie Taylor Green (R-GA) and Paul Gosar (R-AZ) to the Oversight Committee after Pelosi and the House Democrats stripped them of their roles for making controversial statements in 2021. Fox News also confirmed that Freedom Caucus holdouts Bryon Donalds (R-FL), Anna Paulina Luna (R-FL), Scott Perry (R-PA), and Lauren Boebert (R-CO) will serve on the House Oversight Committee.
Famously Boebert and Gaetz refused to vote for McCarthy’s leadership in the House, dragging the voting out to fifteen rounds before he was eventually confirmed. The “Never McCarthy” pair voted present during the final round with other holdouts instead of voting for McCarthy.
Freedom Caucus members Reps. Michael Cloud (R-TX) and Andrew Clyde (R-GA) were both appointed to the House Appropriations Committee where Republicans hope to tighten the purse strings and reign in outrageous spending by Democrats.
The White House seemed displeased with the appointments of Greene, Boebert, Gosar, and Perry. Ian Sams is a spokesman for the White House and he used language like “the most extreme MAGA members of the Republican caucus who promote violent rhetoric and dangerous conspiracy theories” to describe the Freedom Caucus.
McCarthy tweeted “House Republicans are on a mission to end wasteful Washington spending.” He pledged to make “federal bureaucrats” defend their spending before congress. Wouldn’t that be entertaining to watch?
