“The Fetterman Rule” – The Senate Removes Dress Code

(TotalConservative.com) – The U.S. Senate is eliminating enforcement of its dress code for Senators in large part thanks to the zany behavior of Sen. John Fetterman (D-PA) who famously wears gym shorts and a hoody to vote in the upper chamber.

Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) officially instructed the Senate’s sergeant-at-arms to allow Senators onto the floor without having formal business attire. The change marks the first time Senators will be able to wear whatever they want on the Senate floor. Schumer said he plans to wear a suit regardless.

The privilege is reserved for Senators, however, not their staff who must still wear business casual attire. Members of the public will also be expected to dress accordingly. The dress code has been strictly traditional without any formal legal requirement, but it will grant Fetterman some extra leeway.

The freshman senator had taken to voting from the entrance to the Democratic coatroom or while standing at a side entrance previously, according to the AP.

Sen. Peter Welch (D-VT) suggested the Senator was updating the dress code when the story was fresh. His joke turned out to be a prediction.

The AP suggested this was a good thing for Fetterman who has previously dealt with depression and anxious feelings after suffering a stroke that almost killed him in 2022. His aides and confidants report that his preference for comfy clothes is a good sign that he’s been recovering. This followed six weeks of inpatient treatment at Walter Reed Medical Center earlier this year.

Axios pointed out that earlier relaxations of the dress code allowed women to bare their arms. Sen. John Cornyn (R-TX) asked if the change was a double standard on X (Twitter). Fox News contributor Guy Benson called the shift, “The Fetterman Rule.”

Fetterman seems to have difficulty with reading comprehension, insulting a journalist who defended his casual dress in a Twitter post. He was also spotted making funny hand gestures and sarcastic comments when asked about the House formally investigating impeachment proceedings against President Joe Biden.
