Trump Attorney Says Fight Is ‘Not Over’

(TotalConservative.com) – One of former President Donald Trump’s lawyers reacted to last week’s guilty verdict handed down to the former president by maintaining that he did not receive a “fair trial” in Manhattan.

On Thursday, May 30, a jury in New York City handed Trump a guilty verdict in the hush money trial against him after a long court battle in which the former president faced gag orders and an environment the GOP argues was inherently biased against him. He was convicted on all 34 counts against him for the falsification of business records, a landmark decision that makes Trump the first former president in American history ever to be convicted of a felony.

After the decision, Trump attorney Todd Blanche appeared on Fox News’ “Jesse Watters Primetime” and said that the former president’s legal team expected the trial to play out “exactly” the way it did. Watters asked Blanche if he felt his client got “a fair trial,” to which Blanche responded, “No.”

Blanche said that Trump’s legal team has said “for over a year” that they wouldn’t be able to “get a fair trial in Manhattan.” He then went on to partially blame Judge Juan Merchan. Trump’s team tried to make Merchan recuse himself out of bias, a motion the judge denied. He said they “felt very strongly” that the judge truly was biased. Blanche also felt the gag order against Trump violated his client’s constitutional free speech rights.

Trump’s sentencing hearing is scheduled for Thursday, July 11, which is only four days before the Republican National Convention (RNC) in Milwaukee on July 15. Trump is also expected to announce his running mate shortly before then. Despite his legal battles, the former president remains either tied with or ahead of Biden in most polls, especially in the swing states.

Trump says that “the real verdict” will happen “on Nov. 5 by the people,” maintaining his innocence after the verdict announcement. A couple of days later, he was greeted by a roaring crowd while attending UFC 302 just a few miles away in New Jersey.
