Donald Trump has already slapped the Fake News sticker on CNN and BuzzFeed, but now it’s NBC in the president-elect’s crosshairs. Trump was angered on Wednesday when watching a report on the network about jobs he was bringing back to the United States. He took to Twitter with his remarks.

“Totally biased @NBCNews went out if its way to say that the big announcements from Ford, GM, Lockheed, and others that jobs are coming back to the U.S. but had nothing to do with TRUMP, is more FAKE NEWS,” the president-elect wrote. “Ask top CEOs of those companies for real facts. Came back because of me!”

You know, Trump takes a lot of criticism for his self-aggrandizing manner, but the media leaves him with no choice. If Trump doesn’t go out there and promote what he’s doing, no one outside of conservative media will ever hear about it. He’s absolutely right about NBC – and they aren’t the only offenders. All the major networks and newspapers have been working overtime in an attempt to downplay Trump’s successes with Ford, Carrier, and the rest.

“No wonder the Today Show on biased NBC is doing so badly compared to its glorious past,” he wrote. “Little credibility!”

There is some truth to the reports that say these companies already had manufacturing plans in the pipeline, but let’s not get ahead of ourselves. Trump has been preaching this message since the summer of 2015. He just got elected, but he didn’t just arrive on the scene. You don’t think these companies were paying close attention to this revolutionary political moment in the U.S.? You don’t think they were looking at Trump’s rallies and thinking, Hmm…it would not be a good idea to land on the wrong side of this movement? Oh, they were watching.

So whether or not Donald Trump personally made these deals – and in some cases, he absolutely, verifiably did – he still deserves some credit for the outcome. American companies aren’t just trying to ingratiate themselves with the new president; they are open to hearing his plans to make this country a more attractive landscape for business. And most of all, they are ready to appear “patriotic” to millions of Americans who might decide they would rather buy cars from a manufacturer who shows some hometown loyalty.

The mainstream media has a vested interest in seeing him fail. And every time they take an ax to his accomplishments, they will be simultaneously taking an ax to the American people. To them, it’s more important to protect Barack Obama’s legacy than it is to put this country back to work.

Little credibility, indeed.
