In some of his sharpest remarks yet about Joe Biden’s new running mate, President Trump said in an interview this weekend that Sen. Kamala Harris is “the worst in the Senate” and a terrible person to have only a heartbeat away from the presidency. Trump, pushing back against the notion that Harris is a moderate Democrat, told Sinclair’s Eric Bolling that there were very few in the party any “nastier” than the California senator.
“She’s the nastiest of anybody in the Senate. She was the worst, meanest person to Judge Kavanaugh who became Justice Kavanaugh,” Trump said. “I’ve never seen anything like it. I heard actually that she is the most liberal person in all of Congress. That’s what I’ve heard. More liberal than Bernie Sanders, believe it or not.”
While that does seem hard to believe, a simple look at Harris’s voting record on Capitol Hill bears it out, as Fox News explains:
The president was apparently referring to GovTrack.us, which ranked Harris as the “most liberal” U.S. senator in 2019. The organization tracks Congress and information on lawmakers and their voting records, touting itself as “one of the oldest government transparency websites in the world,”
The website noted that Harris was “ranked most liberal compared to all senators” in 2019.
The group’s analysis was based on senators’ “legislative behavior by how similar the pattern of bills and resolutions they cosponsor are to other members of Congress,” according to its website.
“The score can be interpreted as a conservative-liberal scale, although of course it only takes into account a small aspect of reality,” the website stated.
But even when you widen your look at Harris’s “reality,” the picture certainly doesn’t look much more conservative.
Take her campaign, for instance, where she disavowed any barrier at the southern border, vowed to ban semi-automatic rifles, and expressed support for the radical Green New Deal. How does any of that qualify Harris for “moderate” status? And we won’t even get into her support for Black Lives Matter, the organization, and the people out there rioting in our city streets. That alone should disqualify her from holding higher office.
“Biden has been brought over. I guess he’s a socialist,” Trump said in the interview.
Of course, Trump noted, “If you asked him, ‘What does socialism mean,’ he wouldn’t answer. He’s got no clue.”
Yeah. That’s the problem.
