Donald Trump didn’t rise to the top of the Republican primaries by holding back, but he went even further than usual this weekend when confronted with Hillary Clinton’s latest criticisms. Clinton said this week that she no longer found the real estate mogul “funny,” and claimed that his call to stop Muslim immigration was only going to embolden the Islamic State.
Trump, appearing on Fox News Sunday, said that when it came to terrorism and the chaos in the Middle East, Clinton would do well to look in a mirror.
“She is the one that caused this problem with her stupid policies,” Trump said. “You look at what she did with Libya, what she did with Syria. She was truly one of the worst secretary of states in the history of the country. She talks about me being dangerous; she’s killed hundreds of thousands of people with her stupidity.”
Host Chris Wallace, apparently hearing about the devastation in Syria for the first time, was taken aback. “What do you mean, ‘hundreds of thousands?’”
“She was secretary of state,” Trump said. “Obama was president. Two real geniuses.”
With this attack, Trump brings into the spotlight an inconvenient truth that has been tragically overlooked. Liberal pundits have been tripping over one another in an attempt to prop Clinton up as this bastion of experience in the wake of the San Bernardino terrorist attack. At a time like this, they say, who else could we possibly choose to be our commander-in-chief?
Clinton voted for the Iraq war and supported the 2011 withdrawal, which puts her in the unenviable position of being wrong twice on the same subject. And we’re supposed to trust that the experience she brings to the table is going to solve the crisis of Islamic terrorism? That would be like hiring Ray Rice as your company’s anger management counselor.
It brings to mind Joe Biden’s “I’m not running” speech in the Rose Garden a few months ago. Biden spent nearly a half hour ruminating about all the problems that we have in this country, insisting that we need a good Democrat to come forward and solve them. Well, if we have all of these problems, why didn’t you and Obama solve them? What the hell have you been doing for the last seven years?
But this is the argument you have to swallow if you’re going to vote for Clinton, who was not only secretary of state under Obama but also had her fingers in the pie for much of the 1990s. You remember the 1990s, when a dude named Osama bin Laden first attacked the United States? If these clowns haven’t solved the problem by now, why would the American people trust them to do it now?
We would have to be absolutely foolish to entrust the ISIS disaster to the very people who created it. Hillary Clinton is out there promising to carry forward the Obama Doctrine, as though things will magically turn around if we all just hope for it strongly enough.
Talk about dangerous.
