Fully aware that it is a bit tiresome to begin throwing around hyperbolic political firebombs like, “The Democrats are responsible for a little girl’s death!!,” we must nonetheless make that statement. Why? Because the Democrats and the wider political left are trying to smear President Trump and his anti-immigration supporters as the orchestrators of Jakelin Amei Caal Maquin’s death, and nothing could be further from the truth.
The truth is, from all the reporting that exists, that the Border Patrol did everything possible to revive the seven-year-old, who died of dehydration and starvation while in custody. It’s doubtful anyone could have done more.
This death is on her father, who chose to drag his little girl across thousands of miles of desert.
This death is on Democrats, who refuse to put into place the kind of laws and border security that would deter immigrants from making this dangerous trek in the first place.
It is despicable and deceitful to tell the story any other way.
But that didn’t stop Democrat Rep. Norma Torres from California.
“They murdered this child,” she said on MSNBC on Friday. “They did that.”
It didn’t stop Hillary Clinton, who tweeted: “There are no words to capture the horror of a seven-year-old girl dying of dehydration in U.S. custody. What’s happening at our borders is a humanitarian crisis.”
And we’re sure it won’t stop many scores of media pundits and Democrats from tarring the Trump administration with this vile brush.
But if they really wanted to prevent deaths like this in the future, they would endorse the border security measures needed to stop immigrants from making the trip. That is the only thing that might put a stop to these tragedies. If we had a wall that would keep illegal immigrants from not only getting into the country, but even thinking of getting into the country, we wouldn’t have caravans showing up at the border. If we were clear and consistent with our asylum rules, we could put an end to these dangerous journeys. That is what it will take, and that is what we should do to honor this girl’s tragic death.
But Democrats don’t give a damn about this girl or any other migrant who might die on the way to the United States. They only care inasmuch as it is a political weapon to be used against Donald Trump. That’s all they care about. It’s sick, it’s inhuman, and it’s chilling.
But that’s the Democratic Party.
