Trump Is Officially The GOP Presidential Candidate

(TotalConservative.com) – Two days after former President Donald Trump almost died from an assassination attempt at a rally in Pennsylvania, he made his way to the Republican National Convention where he was officially declared the Republican nominee for the presidential election.

On Monday, July 15, Trump was formally nominated by delegates at the RNC to serve as the party’s presidential candidate. The decision came after a tumultuous few weeks, from the first presidential debate on June 27 to an attempted assassination of Trump on July 13, marking one of the most hectic periods in American history.

Trump said he and his team initially discussed delaying their trip to Milwaukee to attend the RNC after the attempted assassination at a rally in Butler County, Pennsylvania, but that they decided to proceed as planned. On day one, Trump made his triumphant first appearance since the attempt on his life to a roaring crowd and appeared noticeably emotional. The next day, on July 16, conservative journalist Andy Ngo wrote on social media that the former president’s face looked “changed at the RNC” following his brush with death and that there was “a somberness” to Trump’s expressions that Ngo had “never seen before.”

The former president dominated the Republican primaries and his formal nomination was expected, as was the announcement he made on the first day of the convention about his running mate just before the formal confirmation as the GOP candidate. Trump wrote on his Truth Social page that Sen. J.D. Vance of Ohio would be his vice president, a decision he said he came to “after lengthy deliberation and thought” as well as considering many others with “tremendous talents.”

Trump said Vance was “the person best suited” for the position, noting his military background, his education at The Ohio State University and Yale Law School, and his success as an editor and writer. Trump also praised “Hillbilly Elegy,” Vance’s bestselling book about rural, working-class Americans.

As a result of the assassination attempt, the RNC employed heightened security for the event. On Wednesday, July 17, a suspicious man was arrested near a security checkpoint outside the convention carrying an AK-47 pistol in his backpack without a concealed carry permit.
