(TotalConservative.com) – Ohio Senator J.D. Vance has been announced as Trump’s running mate and thus potential future vice president. Vance had previously slammed Trump as “America’s Hitler” as well as “an idiot” and called himself “a never Trump guy” in the 2016 electoral cycle. Like many other Americans, it seems he’s come around and changed his mind about the former and potentially future president.
The announcement preceded the four-day Republican National Convention (RNC) in Milwaukee, Wisconsin which began on Monday, July 15.
Vance is the author of “Hillbilly Elegy” and is relatively popular amongst conservatives. Observers had wondered if Trump was going to pick a woman or other minority to increase his chances with moderates.
Trump made the announcement following an assassination attempt on Saturday, July 13 after 20-year-old Thomas Crooks opened fire at Trump, clipping his ear, critically injuring two attendees and killing another. Crooks was killed by counter-snipers shortly after he opened fire.
Vance has been praised by former Trump administration official Steve Bannon, and Donald Trump Jr. as contributing to push America’s foreign policy away from involvement in overseas wars. Vance is also a regular firebrand on social media and, at age 39, is capable of bringing in younger voters.
Many commenters online eagerly anticipate the vice presidential debate, believing that Vance will beat Vice President Kamala Harris into the proverbial dust. Harris is known for ridiculous aphorisms and circular reasoning suggesting a limited mental capacity. A compilation video features Harris suggesting “what can be, unburdened by what has been.” It appears to be a favorite line for the vice president.
Vance changed his mind substantially during the 2022 midterm elections, becoming one of Trump’s most ardent defenders at a time when it was still politically unpopular to do so. He has also highlighted unnecessary and political prosecution of January 6 protesters and rioters, highlighting that the DOJ ignored due process.
