(TotalConservative.com) – Twitter suspended a Republican Senator over a profile picture of him and his wife which included an animal they killed while hunting.
Montana Sen. Steve Daines’ profile page reads his account is “temporarily unavailable” due to Twitter’s “sensitive media policy” which covers things like graphic violence, gore, and pornographic content. Twitter does allow such content on the platform, just not in users’ profile pictures.
A single glance at the photo in question yields the senator and his wife with a horned antelope between them. A few drops of blood are only visible upon examining an enlarged version of the image. Is that what Twitter claims is “gore?” The smaller version most people see of a profile picture makes the scant red drops very hard to detect.
Daines gave his wife credit when asked about the suspension, “My wife is a great shot,” he told the Daily Caller.
Twitter demanded the photo be deleted before unlocking his account. Conservatives lit the social media giant up with criticism for the ban, supposing Daines’ political affiliation had more to do with it than the content of his profile picture.
“Stop censoring our Montana way of life!” Retired navy seal and congressional candidate Ryan K. Zinke tweeted in response.
Donald Trump Jr. called the suspension “a disgrace” while resharing a screenshot of the notification to remove the tweet.
Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) called it “ridiculous.” He further expressed sentiments that it’s perfectly acceptable to avoid hunting or fishing yourself if that’s your preference, but there’s no reason to censor others who disagree.
Most of the folks questioning the suspension found it unnecessary and asked for a justification. Others expressed sentiments that not much has changed since Elon Musk took over the platform. Regardless of how you feel about censorship on Twitter, it seems as if Republicans tend to take the brunt of it.
