(TotalConservative.com) – Ohio native, author, and entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy announced his bid for the GOP nomination for the 2024 presidential election and calls to restore a unified national identity.

A few days before he officially launched his campaign, Ramaswamy had a lengthy interview with Fox News Digital about a wide array of issues facing the United States and his vision of how to bring the country back together under a national identity.

Ramaswamy is the author of the book “Woke, Inc.” and plans on pushing back against identity politics in a campaign he described as a “cultural movement” by shifting focus from identity groups such as race and gender toward a national identity, which he claims has been buried by the culture war.

Although he will be going up against former President Donald Trump, former North Carolina Governor Nikki Haley, and possibly Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, Ramaswamy says he will not be running against his opponents so much as for the country itself. He stated that it’s not about him, DeSantis, or Trump, nor is it about boasting of one’s accomplishments or running opponents over the coals, but “reviving a national identity that we miss” and that he wants to “recast [the primaries] to be about that vision… that question… these ideas.”

“The question is,” Ramaswamy asks, “who actually has a vision to do something for the country that matches what the people of this country demand?” This is what he contends the primaries should focus on.

When asked about Nikki Haley’s claims that the White House needs “a new generation of leadership,” the 37-year-old Ramaswamy said it was an “interesting point” yet accused Haley of playing identity politics by using that talking point, which Republicans usually reject. Haley announced her own campaign last week and has continued to tout her age in contrast to Biden and Trump as a selling point for voters.

“Woman of color, man of color, man of non-color, who cares?” reiterated Ramaswamy. “Young, old, first-generation immigrant, brown skin, white skin, female, who you’re attracted to…. Do you actually have an agenda that you stand for?” he asks, stating that he doesn’t think most Americans care about these boxes either, which he believes candidates use “as a substitute” for their lack of “actual vision or policy.”
