Maybe there is something to this global warming business after all. What else could explain the lunacy that has gripped this country over the last year? Lies, distortions, and rage have conspired to form one of the most misguided movements in human history: Black Lives Matter. Maybe temperatures have risen to the point where coherent, rational thought is no longer possible. You have to admit, it would explain a lot.
This weekend, Democratic presidential contenders Bernie Sanders and Martin O’Malley attended something called the Netroots Nation Forum in Phoenix, Arizona. Dozens of black activists interrupted the speakers with chants of “black lives matter,” prompting the politicians to break from their scripted speeches. First up was Sanders, a self-proclaimed socialist who has long preached a message of white guilt. His record wasn’t good enough for the protestors, though, who harangued him with their meaningless chant.
Pandering, Sanders finally addressed the dissent. “Black people are dying in this country because we have a criminal justice system that is out of control,” he said. “Black lives of course matter, but I have spent 50 years of my life fighting for civil rights and if you don’t want me to be here that’s OK.”
O’Malley was similarly interrupted. Using common sense, he said, “Black lives matter. White lives matter. All lives matter.” And here’s where the global warming theory begins to make sense. Because that statement that “all lives matter” was so incendiary that O’Malley felt compelled to apologize later in the day.
“I meant no disrespect,” O’Malley said in an interview. “That was a mistake on my part and I meant no disrespect. I did not mean to be insensitive in any way or communicate that I did not understand the tremendous passion, commitment and feeling and depth of feeling that all of us should be attaching to this issue.”
Please. There is no issue. This is a media-driven work of fiction that has become a disgrace to the civil rights movement. We’ve replaced Martin Luther King, Jr. with Al Sharpton. We’ve replaced Medgar Evers with Michael Brown. Selma with Ferguson. Real issues like segregation and voting rights with idiotic causes like the Confederate flag. It’s not clear what these protestors even hope to accomplish, though it seems that what they really want is for black Americans to have immunity from the law.
These knuckleheads deserve no apology. They are so stupid that they are turning against the very liberals who are sympathetic to their cause. Maybe that’s because they don’t have a cause. Maybe that’s because they just want something to be angry about, regardless of whether or not that anger is justified. And that’s fine. There will always be people like that. The problem isn’t that they exist, the problem is that we treat them as if their arguments hold any merit.
