We can argue about the finer points of crowd size all day long, but anyone with two eyes and ears could see that the Women’s March on Washington easily dwarfed the crowd that witnessed Donald Trump’s inauguration in Friday. And when you combine the D.C. march with protests held around the country, the numbers are even farther apart. Facts are facts, no matter how many “alternative” numbers the Trump team comes up with.
As tempting as it may be, it doesn’t do our cause any good to deny reality. Nor does it help us to pretend like we have more Americans on our side than we really do. In fact, that kind of head-in-the-sand mentality is exactly what will give liberals the opportunity they need to turn the 2020 election into a bloodbath. In a country filled with fake, liberal news, conservative need to be the guardians of truth.
But this isn’t about Sean Spicer, Kellyanne Conway, and Donald Trump. If they want to fight about crowd sizes, that’s their prerogative. It’s probably not going to turn out well, but let’s remember that we’re still in the first few days of the administration. It’s going to take some time for them to settle down and leave Campaign Mode behind. And let’s face it, they have every reason in the world to treat the mainstream media like the enemy. If CNN says something is fact, any reasonable person would get a second opinion.
Instead, let’s talk about the hundreds of thousands of women who flooded the Washington Mall on Saturday in their pink “pussyhats.” They came out in force, no doubt about it. But how many of them really understood what they were marching for?
Some of them, no doubt, just wanted to be a part of the spectacle.
Some of them legitimately find Trump’s comments to be sexist and offensive.
But how many of them share the views of the march’s leftist sponsors? Sponsors like Planned Parenthood, whose mission is to make abortion a common, casual medical procedure that women celebrate and encourage. Sponsors like Emily’s List, which provides special training sessions for people who want to run for office on a pro-abortion platform.
For all we know, every single woman who showed up to the march identifies as a rabid feminist.
But probably not.
Many of them are the unwitting pawns of rich liberals who want to turn this country into a cultural wasteland of immorality and government dependence. Those rich liberals act like they’re horrified by Trump’s election, but the truth is that they couldn’t be happier. Trump, by his very nature, allows these groups to recruit Americans who would otherwise distance themselves from the extreme left. If all goes according to plan, these liberals are going to rake in a lot of money over the next four years.
Our job isn’t to pretend that these marches don’t exist; our job is to force the organizers to be honest about their goals.
Then we’ll see how much momentum these movements really have.
