(TotalConservative.com) – Ukraine’s military leader gave comments on April 28 indicating that they’ve retreated to new locations west of three small towns along the eastern front where Russia has been pushing hard and outnumbering their defenders. Colonel General Oleksandr Syrskyi’s assessment reflects the reality that delayed support from America has resulted in practical losses on the ground.
Ukraine ran low on ammunition for small arms, artillery, and anti-air weapons as an additional $61 billion support package was debated in Congress. Many are hoping that the continued supply deliveries which began again the week of April 29 will allow the Ukrainians to stabilize their position and hold the line against the Russians.
Syrskyi bluntly wrote that “the front has worsened” in comments published on Telegram. He described the areas where they retreated as “the most difficult,” which include northwest of Avdiivka and west of Maryinka.
Zelenskyy also issued fresh pleas for all possible haste in facilitating the deliveries of weapons and ammo to maintain the current lines without losing additional territory. He also spoke with House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY) regarding his demand for the immediate delivery of Patriot Missile systems.
Syrski added that while Russia had “tactical success” this did not translate into “operational advantages.” He noted that Russia used four brigades of its troops in the attack. Syrski also said that fresh troops were being rotated in to replace defenders who had been on the front lines for a while and had taken losses.
Moscow has been slowly pushing deeper west into Ukraine over the past few weeks after taking Avdiivka, exploiting the lack of defenses due to munition shortages.
The next major town being held by Ukraine is Chasiv Yar. The town sits on high ground and acts as a gateway to major cities nearby including Kramatorsk, Sloviansk, and Kostiantynivka.
