South Korea Calls Out Major Threat To Europe

(TotalConservative.com) – South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol made an appeal to the international community during the NATO summit in Washington, D.C., over July 9-11. On Wednesday, July 10, the summit issued a declaration signed by 32 NATO nations that suggested North Korea and Iran were “fueling Russia’s war” and giving Russia “direct military support.” NATO is doing the same thing for Ukraine, however.

The suggestion implicit in the declaration is that the growing alliance between Russia and North Korea is alarming member states and being highlighted by South Korea.

Yoon made an appearance at the summit to elaborate his concerns that the growing alliance currently restricted to allegedly providing weapons and ammunition to the Russians, could ultimately lead to North Korean soldiers fighting in Ukraine. While there’s no indication that plan is in the works, the possibility was still invoked by Yoon to highlight his country’s willingness to support NATO.

Yoon told corporate press outlets that North Korea represents “a distinct threat” to European security as well as a danger to South Korea.

Russian President Vladimir Putin and North Korean leader Kim Jung-un signed a mutual defense agreement in June, promising mutual military support should either country be attacked. The agreement opens up the possibility of the North sending troops to fight in Ukraine.

Yoon is the first South Korean official to attend a NATO summit; coming for the first time in 2022. NATO is considered allies with four Asia-Pacific nations including South Korea, New Zealand, Japan, and Australia. Representatives from those countries were also in attendance at the recent summit.

South Korea is debating whether or not to provide direct aid to Ukraine and is largely waiting and observing to see how North Korea will involve itself after signing the recent agreement with Russia. North Korea was previously accused of shipping ammunition to Russia for use in its long range artillery. The report was unconfirmed, however.

An official in the White House who wasn’t authorized to disclose the information said that one of the major outcomes of this year’s summit will be the firming up of relations and intelligence sharing between NATO and its Asia-Pacific partners. He added that they were currently working on the best options for cooperation in the future.
