Major Hot Dog Recall Issued

(TotalConservative.com) – A recall for 3.5 tons of hot dogs was issued by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) after they were able to go to market “without the benefit of a federal inspection.”

You read that right: there was no disease discovered, contamination, or other health risk for high demand products in the middle of the summer barbeque season. The USDA simply noticed they didn’t get to give the stamp of approval, which means the products must be recalled by law.

The impacted hot dogs come from Kentucky-based producer AW Farms. The recall will primarily impact hotels and restaurants in West Virginia and Ohio. The weiners also were received and distributed on May 30 and are reported to remain viable for 45 days.

The issue was first reported by an unnamed “public health partner” working with state government offices. The claim was then reported to the Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) which is responsible for inspecting all meat sold commercially. They found the violation legitimate under the Federal Meat Inspection Act (FMIA) which legislated the requirement for commercially sold meat products to undergo inspections for safety, proper labeling and to make sure it’s “wholesome.”

Authorities agreed the meat had not been inspected and as such must be recalled. The products are 10-pound boxes containing 2 5-pound bags of hot dogs in vacuum sealed pouches. The hot dogs are marked “French City Foods” and contain either all-beef or a pork-and-beef combination.

FSIS suggested there may be hot dogs in freezers in restaurants or other establishments unaware of the recall. They advise careful scrutiny of their stocks and any hot dogs covered by the recall should be discarded or returned to the place of purchase.

At the time of writing there’s been no incidence of illness or other problems reported from eating the impacted hot dogs. Anyone concerned they ate one should monitor themselves for any symptoms and seek medical attention as needed.
