(TotalConservative.com) – After President Joe Biden dropped out of the race and endorsed his running mate Vice President Kamala Harris to take his place, Democratic lawmakers began to rally around their new candidate. Yet the way that transition occurred didn’t sit well with many Americans, including independent presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr.
Shortly after Biden’s official social media posted an announcement that the president would no longer seek reelection and a subsequent post endorsing Harris to replace him, Kennedy posted a response commending Biden for stepping down. He said the president’s “infirmities were evident” from the beginning to “any unbiased observer” and that it was Biden’s “deterioration” as well as his “abandonment of Democratic principles” that prompted him to also enter the presidential race. Kennedy said he wanted to “ensure” that voters had an alternative to Trump who was “viable” and “vigorous.”
When Kennedy first entered the race in April 2023, he was originally running under the Democratic Party. One of the public relations stunts he pulled to try and contrast the frail image of Biden was to share videos recorded of himself doing pull-ups and bench-pressing weights without a shirt on. Realizing he would gain no support from the Democrats already rallied around Biden, Kennedy relaunched his campaign in October 2023 as an independent.
Kennedy believes the way Harris was ushered quickly into her new position as the presumptive Democratic nominee subverts the Democratic process. The independent presidential contender accused the Democrats of “anointing a candidate” who was “hand-picked by the elites” and said they should have an open process to select a new nominee for November’s election against former President Donald Trump, who is now officially the GOP nominee.
Even though a majority of delegates had already pledged their support for Harris, Kennedy believes the Democratic National Committee (DNC) should employ neutral polling to decide on the best candidate capable of defeating Trump. Kennedy also criticized the former president, who he said also serves corporate interests over the American public, just like Harris. The independent candidate maintains that he would have the best shot at defeating Trump in a two-man race.
