DeSantis Will Visit Israel to Speak at Museum in Jerusalem

(TotalConservative.com) – Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis announced in a press release that he plans to travel to Jerusalem next month to speak at a special museum event amid Israel’s domestic crisis. He is expected to pitch his credentials on foreign policy ahead of declaring a 2024 presidential run.

According to the Jerusalem Post and the Museum of Tolerance in Jerusalem, DeSantis is scheduled to deliver a keynote speech at the museum addressing tensions in Israel. Coinciding with the 75th anniversary of Israeli independence, DeSantis’ office confirmed his plans to visit in a press release.

In the announcement, the Florida governor said that the Sunshine State “serves as a bridge between the American and Israeli people” during “a time of unnecessarily strained relations between Jerusalem and Washington.”

Protests erupted on the streets of Israel in response to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s judicial overhaul plan, after which he delayed the plan in favor of negotiations with rival political groups in order to “avoid civil war.” According to Israeli media, a formal invitation to Netanyahu to visit the White House is being withheld due to displeasure with him, although Tom Nides, U.S. ambassador, said the Israeli Prime Minister will be invited soon.

DeSantis’ planned visit appears to be one more indicator that he will soon announce a bid for the White House, although it may draw more criticism that the Florida governor is already running a “shadow presidential campaign” without declaring officially in order to avoid having to step down as governor too soon.

A Trump-affiliated PAC recently made such an accusation, accusing DeSantis of violating ethical statutes and neglecting his gubernatorial duties. The former president clearly sees DeSantis as the greatest threat to winning the Republican nomination, and his attacks on the Florida governor via social media and in speeches have been relentless.
