(TotalConservative.com) – Hannah Gutierrez-Reed, the armorer who worked on the movie set of Alec Baldwin’s “Rust”, was sentenced to 18 months imprisonment in connection to the 2021 shooting in New Mexico that killed Halyna Hutchins, the film’s cinematographer, and injured the director.
On Monday, April 15, an emotional Gutierrez-Reed listened to her sentencing in tears as it was handed down by New Mexico Judge Mary Marlowe Sommer, who gave the 26-year-old armorer the maximum penalty of 18 months. Gutierrez-Reed was convicted in March for involuntary manslaughter in connection with the fatal shooting of Hutchins by Baldin, who claims the prop pistol he wielded accidentally discharged while loaded on set. The shot killed Hutchins and injured director Joel Souza.
Marlowe was harsh in her sentencing, telling Gutierrez-Reed that she did not hear her “take accountability” for what happened and that although Guitierrez-Reed said she was sorry, the judge felt she wasn’t truly sorry. The judge also pointed out that the armorer used her attorney to tell the court she was “remorseful” rather than doing so herself, which Marlowe said is a word that does not apply to Guitierrez-Reed.
The judge told Gutierrez-Reed that her involvement in the shooting by previously handling the gun that she was responsible for overseeing on set “constitutes a serious violent offense” and sentenced her to 18 months in a women’s correctional facility. The armorer pleaded with the judge before her sentencing, requesting to be released and stating that she was “not a monster,” just “young and naive” on the job.
Although she was also accused of tampering with evidence, Guitierrez-Reed was found not guilty of that charge.
Baldwin, who was indicted by a grand jury in January, pleaded not guilty. The actor also waived his arraignment right. Baldwin’s trial is scheduled for July 10, and he may receive the same sentence of 18 months. Although prosecutors argue a “pull or rearward depression” of the gun’s trigger took place, Baldwin maintains that he did not pull the trigger.
