(TotalConservative.com) – In an interview set to air on Monday night, Elon Musk sounded the alarm again about artificial intelligence (AI) technology which he called “dangerous.”
The tech billionaire founder of Tesla and Space X, and now the owner of Twitter, sat down with Tucker Carlson recently. In a short clip from the interview, which aired on Monday night, Musk said that “AI is more dangerous than, say, mismanaged aircraft design or production maintenance or bad car production.” He also said that “it has the potential of civilization destruction” and that “however small one may regard that probability… it is non-trivial.”
Just last month, the Future of Life Institute issued a letter titled “Autonomous Weapons Open Letter: AI & Robotics Researchers,” which was signed by Musk, Steve Wozniak, and over 1,000 other leaders in the tech industry. The letter warns against AI’s potential dangers and calls for a minimum pause of six months in developing advanced AI systems until proper safety protocols are invented and some kind of regulation strategy can be implemented by independent experts.
Some of the potential risks cited by the experts include the spreading of misinformation, “propaganda and untruth,” the loss of jobs, and even the development of “nonhuman minds” that could “eventually outnumber, outsmart, obsolete and replace us.” The letter also warned about the risk of losing control of our civilization.
Some detractors of the letter’s claims argue that such a pause would only allow international rivals to gain an advantage over the US in developing the technology, which says a lot about comparing the situation to an arms race.
This isn’t the first time Musk has warned about AI’s potential to destroy civilization. While speaking virtually at the World Government Summit in Dubai in February, he called AI “one of the biggest risks to the future of civilization.”
