President Biden Announces New Border Controls; Conservatives Doubt Real Change

( – President Joe Biden shocked listeners on Thursday, January 5th in a speech where he said Cubans, Nicaraguans, and Haitians will be immediately turned back at the southern border if they attempt to cross illegally. Failing to outline how this change would stem the tide of immigrants, Biden said “Do not, do not just show up at the border.” He further suggested families apply for asylum from wherever they are.

Biden will swing through El Paso, Texas, this Sunday on his way to Mexico City where he’s having a tripartite meeting with Mexican and Canadian leaders. This will be his first visit to the southern border as president, only took him two years and a few million illegal crossings.

The crisis at the southern border will be a key focus of the Mexico City gathering, along with other issues like economics and the illicit-drug trade. Venezuelans were already being turned back under Title 42 in an agreement with Mexico that was finalized in October 2022. Title 42 itself remains in limbo until a comprehensive immigration reform package can be passed in congress.

Even with an accelerated process for asylum seekers, the sheer volume of applicants is impossible to process in a timely manner.

Fox News’s Judge Jeanine Pirro expects Biden to “gaslight us” when he visits the border. “He’s not going to talk about the mess,” Pirro said January 5th on “The Five.” She did not expect the president to address the fentanyl problem, human trafficking by cartels, or gang violence on and around the border.

Calling Biden’s posturing at the border “all talk” she demanded reform in the relevant laws to prevent things like cashless bail for fentanyl smugglers and illegal immigrants. She further elaborated that Biden was pushed to visit the border by Democrat party bosses.

“MS-13, Latin Kings, fentanyl killing 100 people a day in the United States…” Pirro blasted Biden, “I don’t believe a word he says.”
