US Navy Takes Action in Red Sea

( – President Joe Biden compared Hamas to Russian President Vladimir Putin during a televised address to the nation on Thursday, October 19th.

He said that the U.S. will continue to support Israel and Ukraine. Biden claimed both Putin and Hamas are attempting to “completely annihilate” their neighbors.

The speech followed a Pentagon announcement that a U.S. vessel in the Red Sea destroyed multiple rockets and drones fired from Yemen, allegedly targeting Israel. Biden had also traveled to the region to reiterate U.S. support for Israel.

Pentagon Press Secretary Air Force Brigadier General Pat Ryder told reporters that the USS Carney had destroyed multiple cruise missiles and drones they believe were launched by Yemeni Houthis to attack Israel. In the announcement, Ryder caveated their claims by saying they couldn’t be completely certain what their targets were, but that they were heading north along the Red Sea toward Israel.

He further said that the U.S. military will “defend our broader interests” and deter the escalation of the conflict between Hamas and Israel.

The region has been increasingly unstable since an October 7th Hamas-led strike on Israel resulted in the worst casualties ever endured by the tiny Jewish nation in a single terrorist attack. At least 1,400 Israelis and international civilians were killed in the blitz between rocket attacks and a ground assault in which Hamas fighters used paragliders and tunnels to attack Israeli settlements from Gaza. Over 200 civilians, including children are still being held hostage by Hamas.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced a war against Hamas in response, and the conflict threatens to engulf the entire region as Iran backs Hamas, Hezbollah, and other independent terrorist organizations in the region.

Biden has claimed U.S. involvement is required in both conflicts to stop them from getting worse. He said that history shows that terrorists must be punished for their crimes or they’ll continue to expand their violence against new targets.
