DA Rules Justified Homicide after Sacramento Man Shot During Dispute

(TotalConservative.com) – Deputies were summoned to a Sacramento apartment building around 12:30 a.m. in response to a shooting. They found 35-year-old Christopher Saunders with a single gunshot wound to the chest, bleeding out on the floor in the hallway of the building. First responders attempted to save his life, but he was pronounced dead shortly thereafter. Witnesses reported to homicide detectives that Saunders had come to the building to find his estranged wife who was staying in the apartment.

His wife was staying there with her friends: another man, a woman, and their children.

When Saunders arrived, he left his car running outside and entered the building. Witnesses reported that Saunders banged on the door and rushed inside when the door was opened. They said that Saunders grabbed his wife and attempted to coerce her to leave with him, she refused and the adults in the apartment told Saunders he needed to leave.

Saunders became agitated and began a fight with the residents, including a 15-year-old minor. Detectives explained that the male resident retrieved his legally owned firearm and shot Saunders a single time in the chest.

Based on the evidence collected by homicide detectives, the man will not be charged with a crime due to the presumption that the homicide was justifiable. Sheriff’s deputies confirmed that he was never arrested or otherwise held in police custody.

Many people confuse the issue of killing and murder while one is the intentional or unintentional act of ending a life, and the other is being officially convicted in a court of law for a crime as a consequence. The only circumstance where killing is justified is when it’s in self-defense or to save the life of another.

Some states have stronger laws for self-defense than others, in some states killing an individual who’s in the process of committing a felony is considered justifiable. In New Jersey, for example, you have to demonstrate that you made an attempt to flee the scene and only opened fire when you had no other choice (even if the attacker breaks into your home).
