(TotalConservative.com) – Republican Rep. Chip Roy of Texas made an appearance on Newsmax this week and discussed possible solutions for the ongoing crisis at the US-Mexico border, which he said are due to President Joe Biden’s administration and their refusal to follow the laws on the books by releasing illegal immigrants after they’ve been apprehended.
On Monday, March 18, Roy told “The Balance” host Eric Bolling that the crisis will continue until someone “who will follow the law” is in the White House, which he said is the number one goal “this year,” referring to the upcoming election in November. He also said that Congress must “help that future president” or hold the current or “any other president” accountable. Roy said this could be done “by passing legislation” demanding the president will “never release people” into the US when it goes against federal immigration law.
Roy’s recommendations, which most of the GOP are in alignment with, are influenced by the recent uptick in violent crimes committed by illegal immigrations who were let go after their encounters at the border based on the Biden administration’s catch-and-release policies. Republicans criticize this practice for violating federal immigration law.
One of the most notable crimes was the murder of Laken Riley, a nursing student in Georgia who was slain by 26-year-old Venezuelan national Jose Ibarra. Another notable case is that of 26-year-old Haitian national Cory B. Alvarez who was charged with raping a 15-year-old girl in a Massachusetts migrant shelter last week on Thursday, March 14.
Roy said the GOP members of the House tried to address the policies that resulted in the crisis a year ago, in March 2023, when they passed the Secure the Border Act, or H.R.2, which hasn’t made it past the Democrat-dominated Senate and is still being debated. The congressman said that House Republicans have “been trying to say… for several years” what needs to be done to stop the crisis and that most of the issues and concerns have been addressed in H.R.2.
The congressman accused Democratic lawmakers the Biden administration of “knowing that [illegal immigrants] are often criminals” and “affiliated with terrorists.” Roy blamed the “parole and asylum” policies pushed by the White House, which he says are “blatantly” against the law.
