2022 Subway Shooter Receives Shocking Sentence

(TotalConservative.com) – A man who shot and wounded 10 people on a subway in Brooklyn last year was just sentenced to life in prison and he expressed remorse in court.

Frank James, who was charged with terrorism and pleaded guilty last year, was given 10 life sentences and 10 years on top of that, for his deliberate assault on a subway car last year that.

On the morning of April 12, 2022, at Sunset Park Station in Brooklyn, James boarded an N train, proceeded to set off smoke bombs, and then opened fire inside the train car. Ten people were wounded in total, the youngest 16 and the oldest 60. Thankfully, no one was killed in the horrifying attack. A 34-manhunt ensued until James eventually called the police on himself and was arrested.

During his sentencing, the 64-year-old shooter seemed remorseful, and stated that the victims “in no way deserved… what happened to them.” James’ defense attorney tried to get him an 18-year sentence, noting to the judge the age of his client, as well as his documented diagnosis of paranoid schizophrenia. The attorney added that his client had reached out for help before, but was failed by society.

The judge dismissed these arguments and told James his actions could not be “excused or explained away” by his mental illness. James’ actions demonstrate planning. Aside from setting off the smoke bombs and bringing a firearm onto a New York City subway, he also wore a disguise to appear as a construction worker. Prosecutors called James’ actions “shooting fish in a barrel,” referring to the subway car as the barrel.

Multiple victims spoke in court, detailing the incident and their wounds. Some spoke about their subsequent fear of using the subway again. New York District Attorney Breon Peace commented on the case and said not only would those who suffered physical wounds have to “live with these traumatic events for the rest of their lives,” but so would those who witnessed it.
