DeSantis Bans Universities and Colleges from Using State Funds to Pay for DEI Programs

(TotalConservative.com) – Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis continues his mission to transform Florida by signing another bill that will ban state funding for university programs that promote diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI).

DEI is commonly associated with what the GOP describes as “wokeness,” and includes an array of policies in line with the ideology. DeSantis continues to push back against this ideology legislatively, and this new bill, titled SB 266, will ban state universities and colleges from using state funds to pay for programs designed to promote it.

This is only the latest pushback by DeSantis against DEI and “woke” ideology. The Florida governor stirred up a lot of controversy after signing a bill to give parents more control and influence over what their children are learning in public schools. Democrats labeled the legislation as the “Don’t Say Gay Bill,” although this is a misrepresentation as that word never appeared anywhere in the bill, which only bans teaching LGBT+ subjects to students in grades K-3.

These efforts are part of a larger national effort by Republicans for educational reform and more transparency from schools about what students are learning, and giving parents more authority to participate in forming the curriculum.

DeSantis is also making strides in other areas, such as making serial rapists of children 12 years old and younger eligible for the death penalty, a controversial move when he signed it into law.

It seems DeSantis is trying to get as much done in his home state of Florida as possible before stepping onto the national stage officially when he announces his bid for the White House, which seems to be only a matter of time now. Florida lawmakers also recently cleared the way for DeSantis to run for president without having to step down as governor. DeSantis will be Trump’s number-one contender for the GOP nomination in 2024.
