Michael J Fox Claims He’s Open to a Comeback

(TotalConservative.com) – Actor Michael J. Fox said he’s open to returning to his former profession if the circumstances are right, a possibility he hinted at a few years ago.

On Thursday, April 4, Fox appeared on Entertainment Tonight and discussed his career, a recent documentary he worked on, and his future perspectives with host Rachel Smith. In 2020, he announced his retirement from acting, but now Fox says that he’s open to it again if the right role presents itself.

The 62-year-old retired actor also discussed a new documentary project released on AppleTV+ last year. The film, called Still: A Michael J. Fox Movie, recounts Fox’s battle with Parkinson’s disease, which dramatically impacted his life and career. It was directed by Davis Guggenheim and premiered at the 2023 Sundance Festival. The project received several award nominations and was awarded Best Documentary Film by the National Board of Review last year.

Fox was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease in 1991 at just 29, and while his Hollywood career was at its zenith following the box office success of the Back to the Future series. Fox did not go public about his illness until 1998, and in 2000, he founded The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research to help advance progress in science toward finding a cure for the progressive brain disorder that restricts one’s movement and speech abilities.

Fox has now lived with the disease for more than half of his life, giving him plenty of experience to expound upon in the documentary. He told Smith that making the film “was fun” even though he never set out to make a documentary about his story “as a goal,” clarifying that “it just happened.”

When asked about his chances of returning to acting, Fox responded that he would only do it again “if something came up” that he could put his specific “realities” and “challenges” into.

Fox also discussed his early interest in the entertainment industry and Hollywood, from writing, producing, and editing to acting and directing. He reflected on these early ambitions, jokingly noting that 22-year-olds tend to be “obnoxious.”

Ultimately, he said his biggest goals were not related to Hollywood ambitions but raising a family and advancing his foundation for Parkinson’s research.
