US Prepares to Address Threats from Iran

( – The U.S. State Department put out a global warning for Americans abroad after Iran-backed paramilitary groups posted a threat against affiliated individuals and bases in the region over Telegram.

Officials advised citizens to “exercise increased caution” following threats from the Shiite paramilitary Alwiyat al-Waad al-Haq (AWH) published on Telegram on Tuesday. The group qualified Americans in the region as “legitimate targets” in their communiqué.

The Washington Institute described AWH as a front organization for Kataib Hezbollah, another Iran-controlled militia. In their message, they said that their “patience has limits” and that they were considering American outposts in the UAE and Kuwait as legitimate targets in retaliation for Israeli military activity in the West Bank and Gaza.

This is the fifth time AWH has made a threat or claimed responsibility for an attack made by the organization since 2021. They used multiple drones in a previous attack in the UAE last year. Roughly translated, AWH stands for the True Pledge Brigades – The Sons of the Arabian Peninsula and they are considered an extension of Iran’s network of militias.

The threat came on the very same day as Secretary of State Antony Blinken issued a warning to Iran that attacks on U.S. forces would result in a swift and decisive response by the American military.

Blinken also announced that multiple attacks on U.S. forces in Syria and Iraq last week injured 24 U.S. servicemen. The strikes were a combination of drone attacks and rocket-propelled explosives. Biden and his subordinates have now issued repeated warnings to Iran against expanding the conflict in the region.

Department of Defense officials deployed Patriot missile systems and other advanced weaponry to the Middle East to defend allies and assets in Kuwait and the UAE. Two aircraft carriers and multiple warships were also reassigned to the area after Hamas attacked Israeli settlements on October 7th in a surprise attack that triggered the current crisis.
