(TotalConservative.com) – Highlighting the ongoing crime crisis in the nation, another D.C. staff member was robbed at gunpoint this week, infuriating our federal representatives. Sen. Katie Britt (R-AL) reported that a member of her staff, Amanda Peper, was robbed by a carjacker on Thursday evening, October 19th in the 1200 block of E Street, in Northeast D.C.
Peper was walking home when a man approached her, stuck a gun in her face, and demanded her purse and car keys. Peper complied and thankfully escaped the encounter unharmed.
In a statement to Fox News Digital discussing the incident, Sen. Britt expressed her gratitude for the professionalism and quick response of D.C. Metro Police, but said the attack was “infuriating and completely unacceptable.” She further lambasted the state of the city and the problem with crime being completely “out-of-control.” She further implied that federal workers who serve their country should be able to safely commute to work in the nation’s capital.
Britt cited D.C. police’s criminal statistics indicating that robberies have spiked 68% and car thefts jumped 102% in just the last year. She suggested that local politicians have the authority and responsibility to deal with the problem, but that soft-on-crime policies of extremist Democrats have allowed the problem to fester.
Britt is not the only Congress member to have her staff assaulted by criminals in recent months. Rep. Henry Cuellar (R-TX) was carjacked by three men just a few weeks back in early October.
Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) also had a member of his staff “brutally attacked” during daylight hours with a knife and stabbed multiple times. A suspect was arrested in that assault and charged with attempted murder.
Rep. Angie Craig (D-MN) was also attacked as she was entering her apartment building. She was able to fight off her attacker by pouring hot coffee on him.
A bulletin went out on Friday, October 20th by the Congressional Sargeant-at-Arms warning Congressmen and their staff about the rise in crime and offering tips on how to cope with the problem.
