Man Commits Suicide after Breaking into Amusement Park

( – A man’s body was found dead of a self-inflicted gunshot wound to his head in a Colorado amusement park bathroom Saturday morning, October 28th. Diego Barajas Medina, 20, was said to be heavily armed at the time of his death, and “I am not a killer” was written on the wall next to his body.

Glenwood Caverns maintenance workers found the body before the park had opened. The death was ruled a suicide by Garfield County Coroner Robert Glassmire.

Authorities relayed a narrative wherein Medina had entered the park at some point when it was closed. He had body armor on and a semi-automatic rifle, handgun, and explosives with him. They said some of the explosives he had were fake, while others were real. The guns were very real and loaded with real ammunition.

They found the message written on the wall next to his body, but authorities couldn’t confirm who wrote it or when. Garfield County Sheriff Lou Vallario said he had no prior indications that Medina was troubled or planning violence.

The FBI will assist local authorities in reviewing Medina’s digital footprint to see if there was anything he put online that suggested he was planning an attack. Vallario said the investigation was still in its early phase.

He said that given the weapons on his body at the time of his death, it’s very likely that Medina had been planning some sort of mass shooting but decided not to go through with it.

Medina lived with his mother and brother in the neighboring town of Carbondale. A search of the home found no evidence of weapons or explosives and Medina had no prior arrests or other criminal history.

Police said the weapons were all ghost guns, lacking any serial numbers or other identifying information, impossible to trace. His clothing had patches on it that made it seem like he was a member of law enforcement. They further indicated that had he decided to attack the park, it would have been devastating due to the isolated location and popularity on a fall weekend.
